Animation Work Diary

Evaluation;
Animation is something I have previously looked at for my Unit 2 work, and I think it is a really good way of presenting an idea. There are two different types of software that can be used when creating animation, and that is Photoshop and iMovie. Although iMovie is faster, I prefer using Photoshop as it gives me the options to edit the images and export them as a gif which I personally prefer rather than using YouTube. This meant that I focused on creating animation on Photoshop rather than iMovie. In terms of shooting for animation, I had quite a bit of fun coming up with ideas, and although one idea only worked out I am happy with the outcome as it worked really well. Animation closely links in with sequence as the two ideas can overlap, this meant that the images that did not work out for animation can be used as ideas and images for sequence.

These are some screen shots of the animation I made showing Katie walking towards the camera. I really like how this turned out in terms of both the shooting and the editing. When shooting, I decided that placing the camera on the floor and keeping it in the same place was the best way to shoot this. I then continuously took photos so that the animation would be smooth and not jumpy. When it came to editing, I wanted to keep it simple so I just desaturated it a bit as I think it works well with the lighting and colours. When I finished making it and watched it a few times, I decided to reverse it so it appears she walks backwards after. This I think really added to the animation as it keeps it on more of a continuous loop.

Idea Development;

I am happy with how this technique has turned out, and therefore I am happy to leave it as it it in terms of this specific animation. However, I want to look into this further as part of my Unit 3 as I like how animation demonstrates ideas, particularly working well with contrasting and developmental ideas. Something I plan on experimenting with is creating a long animation that appears to be a video, but instead made up of a lot of images and telling a more in depth story than a shorter animation. This could be quite a complex and detailed idea due to the story and the length and will take a lot of planning in terms of shooting arangements.
