Work Record - December 9th 2013

Preparation;
The purpose of my shoot is to show the idea of beauty. To make sure this is not dull I have decided to incorporate snakes into the shoot to give it a wilder look.
This image is what initially gave me inspiration for this shoot. I like how the use of snakes makes the image look quite dark and shows Rihanna to look quite powerful.

To Prepare I need to;

  • Get a model
  • Book snakes
  • Set up studio
  • Plan hair/makeup/clothing

What I hope to achieve;
From this shoot I hope to achieve a range of exciting images showing the idea of beauty.

What I actually achieved;
I am really happy with the outcome of this shoot, as I got a range of images showing different poses, angles and compositions. Due to the use of snakes, I was not sure how easy it would be to get the poses I wanted, but as the model did not mind the snakes and was OK with them on her moving around it came out good. Overall the shoot was quite fun, and that comes across in some of the images. During editing, I did not have no specific technique or style that was continuous as I wanted to experiment with  different effects to get different outcomes and it also depended on the image.

 I really like how bright and natural this image looks, and how well the snake stands out due to its vivid orange colour in comparison to the more natural colours in the image. I also like how close up the image is and how the composition is filled, putting emphasis on a direct area and just showing it. When editing I just made it slightly softer and desaturated the image slightly so it would not look harsh.

This is another image I really like as I think it makes the model look very powerful and in control. I quite like the composition of this image as the model and chair fill it enough so she is clearly the focus. During editing I increased the contrast, brightness and saturated the colour a bit more to make it stand out bolder.

What I am going to do next;
I am really happy with this shoot and this it was a good way to end this project.

Work Record - December 2nd 2013

Preparation;
The aim for this shoot is to create a fun, bright and girly shoot showing fashion. So it does not look simple and just have a model in the image, I am including balloons to make it look more exciting.

These two images both give me inspiration as to how I want the studio set up for my shoot. The top image Shows the colours I want to use and how bright I want the resulting images to be. The bottom image shows how I want the shoot to look in terms of a plain background and the composition.

To prepare I need to;

  • Get a model
  • Plan what she will wear
  • Plan hair and makeup
  • Get balloons
  • Get film for film camera
  • Set up studio - backdrop/lighting

What I hope to achieve;
From this shoot I hope to gain a fun, bright, colourful yet slightly rough shoot showing girly yet slightly dark fashion. I hope to get a range of both digital and film images.

What I actually achieved;
I am really happy with how this shoot came out, and I got a range of images showing various different compositions, angles, poses and lighting to look at the overall idea I was portraying from a different view. The idea of using balloons worked really well with this idea, and allowed me to get a varied range of natural expressions from the model as well. The lighting that worked best for my shoot was using the ring flash as it gave a really bright finish with no shadow. I also used soft box lighting as well for more full length shoots. In terms of editing, I generally kept it simple just touching up areas and intensifying/dimming down the colours.
 This is one of the images I used the ring flash. Ring flash use is evident due to the bright colours and minimal shadow. I also used soft boxes to light the background to ensure it would be bright white. I really like the composition of this, with the model mostly central with balloons freely falling. When editing I didn't have to do much, just levels and curves to perfect the colours.
This image I took with  soft boxes lighting from just above the models height looking down to give a natural effect and create even lighting. Although I prefer the ring flash this creates a softer look. I like how the model takes up the majority of the composition with the balloons loosely around her. I like how relaxed and informal this looks as well. When editing, I kept it the same as the above image.

What I am going to do next;
I am really happy with the result of this, and am waiting for the film to be developed to edit and look at those results.
